It has been interesting watching this episode, again some really great case studies and results acheived by the patieints in the Food Hospital.
I think what this show has highlighted is the need to seek professional advice and have a treatment plan tailor made for you.
Using information posted on the internet to research changes to your diet is inadvisable. A trained professional will help you with this and identify any potential deficiencies in your diet. Acceptable substitutes will be suggested and included in your eating plan. Ellie in episode 5 did not seek professional advice for 2 years and devised herself a choline free diet. This was adapted by the Food Hospital to a low choline diet and many foods she had been avoiding could be reintroduced.

I enjoyed this episode, but would have liked to have seen an eczema case history not linked to weight issues. Nutrition has been found by many to help with their eczema, but this case focused on the patients other health issues as they were a priority. Often emotional stress is linked to eczema and a complete treatment plan is required to help with this. Book an appointment with me at my clinic in Hailsham if you would like a natural approach to eczema.
The gout case history was interesting, a low purine diet is a lot more than just swapping red meat for tofu. The test results for this patient were very good and the long term outlook for this patient if he continues with these dietary changes are very good.
There are foods that can help improve mood and foods which are better avoided for optimum results. A personal eating plan combined with NLP sessions can help you make the changes you are looking for long term.
Nutritional therapy can be tailored to your requirements and lifestyle – if you would like an individual eating plan for these or any other health issues, book to see me at my clinic in Hailsham, 01323 848673.
I treat you as a person, not a list of symptoms. ~ Joanna

Another great episode of the Food Hospital on Channel 4 this week. How wonderful to see the dancer with Crohn’s disease enjoying dancing again.
It’s a shame that gastric bypass surgery was necessary to help with obesity, as it not an option for everyone. There are healthy ways to lose weight and keep it off naturally.

Some great case studies in this episode with fantastic results, it was lovely to see the huge improvement an individualised eating plan made to all of them, especially the little boy with psoriasis.
Supplements were looked at and Dr Alan Stewart’s observation is that it is often people with the best diets, who are taking supplements. Clients who have a poor or limited diet do have a short term requirement for supplements.

A new program on Channel 4 - looking a food as medicine. It’s great to see a program like this on National TV, breaking away from the idea that there is a pill for everything.
Blueberries were looked at in detail and it was amazing to see the impact drinking fresh blueberry juice had on reducing blood pressure. All berries are a great addition to your diet, and during winter months you could use frozen berries to keep the cost down. Most supermarkets now do bags of frozen berries.
Potatoes may have as much vitamin C in the fresh form as berries, however vitamin C is destroyed by cooking. So eating your berries fresh and raw will give you more vitamin C per portion than cooked potatoes.
