PORTION SIZES

Who decides on your portions sizes? The chef in a restaurant? The manufacturers of our food? The size of your dinner plate? Or you?

Do you buy special offers in the supermarket, 3 for 2, buy one get one free?  Do you buy more food each week than you actually need?   (Did you know clever marketing and NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques are employed by supermarkets to encourage us to spend more?)  Are you encouraged to super-size your meals, order side dishes, starters, main and dessert?

Do you really listen to your body and know when you have eaten enough?  Do you resist wasting food because of the messages you were given about clearing your plate as a child?

Brian Wansink PhD explores this in more detail in his interesting book Mindless Eating.

NLP can be very useful to change the way you think about food and under or over eating.   Contact me for a chat about how I can help you with this, or book a consultation with me at my clinic in Hailsham, Nr Eastbourne, Sussex.

The Food Standards Agency are looking at reducing portion sizes and offering smaller portions as an option in addition to reducing saturated fat in products.  Here is a link to a BBC article on this.
